Niagara Parks Commission: A History of Heritage along the Niagara River
Since 1888, the Niagara Parks Commission has been responsible for maintaining the strip of land along the Niagara River. Springing out of years of mass growth and unmanageable private interests, the NPC looked at creating a space that provides access to the River and the Falls, while maintaining the natural beauty of the space.
This discussion with Jim Hill, Senior Manager of Heritage at Niagara Parks will look at the heritage properties that they manage and maintain. Discussing the history, maintenance and stories behind the buildings, brick walls, fencing and people who have worked on this legacy. We will also discuss the future of some of the properties and the challenges of maintaining this important landscape.
